Trae Young had 35 points and 12 assists as the Atlanta Hawks beat the Charlotte Hornets 123-110 inside State Farm Arena on Wednesday night. With the victory, Atlanta extended their winning streak to four games. The Hawks did not surrender the lead from the beginning of the second quarter.
Atlanta shot 42% from the field and nearly 37% from three-point range. Tonight, Young had 17 points in the third quarter.
“I think it’s important for any good team to be able to show you can win in a variety of ways,” Young said. “It’s not going to be the same every night. It’s not going to be easy every night.”

Defense is the key
The Hawks forced 21 turnovers and scored 25 points Wednesday night.
“You look at the best teams in the league, they’ve all won a different variety of ways throughout the season,” Young continued. “That’s just part of being an NBA player and playing all these games. You’re not going to decide to be perfect every night. When your shots aren’t falling, you have to figure out and find a way to win.”
Coming into tonight’s game, Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball was averaging 25.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 7.0 assists. Tonight, he scored 25 points on 6-of-21 shooting from the field. In nine career games against the Hawks, Ball has averaged 21.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 8.2 assists. He scored 34 against the Hawks in October. And it was clear the Hawks could not let Ball put on a show tonight.
Miles Bridges led the Hornets with 31 points.
Looking Ahead

The Atlanta Hawks will host the Los Angeles Clippers this Friday. Returning to State Farm Arena for the first time will be sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic. Wednesday night against the Miami Heat, Bogi scored 30 points and was 4-of-7 from downtown. Also, James Harden added 24 points for the Clippers.
“I haven’t thought about it yet, so I got a couple of days now,” Young said of Bogdanovic’s return. “He’s my guy, for sure, off the court. I know how he thinks. I know how he is. We have much love for each other and our families. And we will definitely compete on Friday.”
Tip-off between the Clippers and the Hawks is scheduled for Friday at 7:30 PM.
