“GARBAGE RAPS” is the brand new single written, produced, and performed by STATUS THE MARLBORO MAN. The new track is dark, catchy, and hard-hitting. The beat is slow but embodies classic underground hip-hop to a T. Precise drums and booming bass lay the groundwork for eerie piano notes and strings.

GARBAGE RAPS is written as a tongue-in-cheek critique of the newer rap music being released. It’s serious in tone when addressing the many sad notes the modern Emcee chooses to include in their music. The drug dealer is now the drug user, the beats are no longer warm – but seem robotic. The subject matter in modern hip-hop is simple and ignorant. No more teaching, with lessons replaced by juvenile self-harming brovado. But as the song progresses, Status begins to self-reflect and confront the fact that he is becoming old and disgruntled. Status writes to remember how ridiculous and ignorant much of the music he loves was back in the day.

GARBAGE RAPS is both a cautionary tale for the youth, as well as a reflective therapy session for the older generation. The intent of the song is to poke fun at the differences in styles and attempt to bridge the gap between the old and the new – While never losing the underground hardcore tone and spirit.

Status The Marlboro Man has been a staple in underground music for years, working with legends Sadat X, A-F-R-O, El Da Sensei, Nine, and more. Find GARBAGE RAPS with B-Side THE BASEMENT on all digital platforms.
