In partnership with the dReam Center Church of Atlanta and Kiss 104.1, 1-800-TruckWreck, backed by local law firm Witherite Law Group, gave away $50,00 worth of meals to Atlanta families on Thursday morning. The spirit of Easter was brimming through the church lot as nearly 70 volunteers gave away 550 Easter boxes containing ham and two sides. The first person was in line at 2:30 a.m., and the turnout was so successful that organizers had to shut down the giveaway, which started at 6 a.m. and was intended to last until 10 a.m., early.

“I mean, honestly, it brings me to tears. My husband and I woke up at two o’clock this morning like it was Christmas time, because we knew that today, somebody who didn’t have an Easter meal would have one, and so we were able to put smiles on people’s faces today and just show the love of Jesus Christ before Easter,” said Pastor Chandra Midgette.

The aim of the event was not only to put a smile on families’ faces but to tackle issues such as food insecurity. According to Feeding America, over 1.4 million people are facing hunger in Georgia; over 400,000 of that number are children.

Both the dReam Center Church and Witherite Law Group regularly donate groceries to families in need, and Amy Witherite, owner of Witherite Law Group and 1-800-TruckWreck, said the opportunity to reach into the community and lift up many at one time is immediate gratification.

“It’s even more important this year. There’s always food insecurity, but this year, I met people who had government jobs and don’t have them any longer, a postal worker who just got laid off. These folks really need the help because of all the changes going on in the world today, and it really lifts up you r heart and your voice, just to know you did some good.”
