The Atlanta Braves began their July 4th weekend series with the Baltimore Orioles at Truist Park on Friday night, the same way they began this long homestand, with a loss. Atlanta lost 3-2, getting a two-run home run from catcher Drake Baldwin in the 6th inning, but nothing else.
The Braves left six runners on base and were 0-5 with runners in scoring position.
Spencer Strider (6 innings, three earned runs, six strikeouts) picked up the loss, and former Braves starter and Baltimore’s starter for the evening, Charlie Morton, picked up the win. Cedric Mullins’ two-run home run in the fifth inning gave Baltimore what they needed to win on the road tonight.
With Friday’s loss, the Braves have now lost the first game of three consecutive series, including against the Los Angeles Angels and Philadelphia Phillies. Atlanta went on to lose both series.
Aaron Bummer will start on Saturday for Atlanta, as the team is playing a bullpen game. Bummer will be followed by a number of relievers, including Austin Cox and Enyel De Los Santos, who both pitched well on Thursday.
