Will provide hundreds of students with on-site admissions counseling, scholarships, mentoring, and employment opportunities
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is committed to ensuring educational access and opportunity for Black students.
This year’s HBCU Fair will proceed despite presidential executive orders aimed at eliminating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (D.E.I.) initiatives and blocking events that expand opportunities for historically marginalized students.
The fraternity remains resolute in its mission to protect and strengthen these essential pathways to success.
“This college fair kicks off our annual regional convention, which will bring college men, undergraduates, and alumni professionals from seven Southern states, and we stand firm in our support to provide every student the opportunity to be equal,” said Cecil Howard, Alpha Phi Alpha’s Southern Regional Vice President, of Tampa, Fla. “Atlanta is the cradle of the civil rights movement, and there is no better place for us to hold our HBCU fair and our regional convention.”
Alpha Phi Alpha’s Commission on Racial Justice recently addressed the Impact of Pell Grants on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), underscoring the vital role these grants play in ensuring higher education access for African-American students. HBCUs serve a disproportionately high number of Pell Grant recipients, many of whom come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Any reduction in federal financial aid poses an existential threat to these institutions and the communities they serve.
D.E.I. initiatives have been falsely portrayed as granting “unearned success” to Black Americans, part of a broader attack on institutions dedicated to Black advancement. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity unequivocally rejects these misrepresentations and remains steadfast in advocating for policies that uplift Black communities and all underserved populations.
