Trae Young rallies Hawks, but Miami Heat prevails

State Farm Arena was rocking Friday night as the Atlanta Hawks were fighting to stave off elimination. Trae Young scored 29 points and dished out 11 assists. Onyeka Okongwu played 49 minutes, scoring 28 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. However, it was not enough. Tyler Herro scored 30 points and Davion Mitchell added 16 points off the bench as the Miami Heat beat the Hawks 123-114 in overtime.

“For me, personally, not making the playoffs is a failure for me,” Young said. “No matter who’s out there, no matter how much adversity we faced, I still feel like we’ve got a good enough group to make the playoffs and at least go in there and compete.”

Now the offseason is rife with questions. A contract extension for Dyson Daniels will be a priority this summer. What will this team look like with the return of Jalen Johnson and a maturing Zaccharie Rishacher? And most importantly, Trae Young is extension-eligible this summer and has a player option for 2026.
