In this series, ArtsATL asks a member of the Atlanta arts community to share 11 things on their mind. We hope you enjoy getting to know these people better.

::

Addae Moon is the associate artistic director of Theatrical Outfit in the heart of downtown Atlanta, as well as is an accomplished playwright, dramaturg, director and teacher. His work has been seen on stages all across Atlanta and beyond.

Here, in no particular order, are his 11 good things:

1.Young John Lewis. After six years of development (and personally five years as development dramaturg), I am super excited to finally get a chance to share what we have been cooking up at Theatrical Outfit with Atlanta and the rest of the world.

2. New work. Not just the YJL team but the amazing group of artists behind our inaugural LAUNCHPAD — Phong Le, Bridget McCarthy, Stephen Ruffin, Filipe Valle Costa and Steve Yockey. All four world premieres told their stories in their ways. And all four have future productions in the works.

3. Partners. This season at TO, we have worked with amazing partners to bring our stories to an even larger audience. Shout-outs to The Breman, Dominion Entertainment and the John & Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation.

4. Donors. Now more than ever, individual donors who support live theater are vital. We cannot do what we do without them. So … THANK YOU!

5. Sinners. As a person that loves stories, it has been really refreshing to watch audiences engage with such a complex, multi-layered and highly entertaining representation of Black Southern culture.

6. Coffee. Because … fuel!

7. Obstacles. This is going to sound weird … but because of the current obstacles that artists in this country face, I am really excited for the work that is going to come out of this time. Artists always do their best work when their backs are against the wall!

8. The Invisibles by Grant Morrison. This comic series is a staple of mine that I revisit every few years. This year in particular, a story about a band of rebel magicians, mystics and weirdos fighting against tyranny seems really appropriate.

9. Red Tarot: A Decolonial Guide to Divinatory Literacy by Christopher Marmolejo. It is a book about tarot. But it is also a book about reading, literacy and resistance against imperialism. I know that doesn’t sound like fun, but it is actually a damn good read.

10. The staff of Theatrical Outfit. Because we manage to laugh and have a good time even under stressful conditions. It is refreshing to be in a work space with people who care as much about the craft as I do.

11. Did I say Young John Lewis? ’Cause for real, Young John Lewis. Missing this show is not an option.
