Kicking off a prolific season, Los Angeles indie-rap stalwart and entrepreneur King Lil G serves up a new single and music video entitled “City Lights” out today via Empire 47/ 808 Cartel/ Compound Interest labels.
On the track, producer DJ Flippp laces the beat with a slick Spanish-style guitar lick and steady snaps. Against this sparse backdrop,King Lil G opens with introspective observations. He takes stock of his seemingly impossible come-up and wonders, “Maybe it’s my destiny to overcome some more.” On the hook, he drifts into deep though on empty L.A. streets, “Top down, city lights, thinking ‘bout this shit ain’t got me feeling right.” The visual follows him throughout his day. From breakfast in a spacious Southern California mansion and business moves at his desk to a night drive in a classic convertible, it pulls viewers into his world.
About the song, King Lil G says, “It reminisces about sleeping on the couch, living off EBT, and not having any money to eat. I was running around in the streets with my friends. I reflect on that life and share how depressing it can be when you make bad decisions.”
It follows the recent released street anthem “Loyalty.” In less than a few weeks, the music video has already gathered 286K YouTube views and a plug from Hip Hop Over Everything.
Born in Mexico and raised in South Los Angeles (fka South Central LA), King Lil G has inspired his peers and loyal fanbase around the globe with his brutally honest storytelling ability and independent success. Without the assistance of a major record company, G has been able to gain over half a billion YouTube views, while his 90’s Kid and AK47 Boyz albums have amassed hundreds of millions of views on Spotify.
A full King Lil G studio album is planned for the end of 2024, stay tuned for more info!
