CONYERS, GA—The Conyers City Council has announced its intention to increase the 2025 property taxes it will levy this year by 18.05 percentage over the rollback millage rate.
City officials say the tax increase is necessary due to the inflationary cost of providing city services.
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared, Georgia law requires that a rollback millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current year’s digest that last year’s millage rate would have produced had no reassessments occurred.
The budget tentatively adopted by the Conyers City Council requires a millage rate higher than the rollback millage rate. However, before the City Council may finalize the tentative budget and set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase.
Concerned citizens are invited to attend the public hearings, which will be held at Conyers City Hall, 901 O’Kelly on the following dates and times:
Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m.
The Conyers City Council will hold a called meeting for the purpose of setting the millage rate on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 6:30 p.m., Conyers City Hall.
