In a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced she will not run for the U.S. Senate in 2026. Greene’s decision follows Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s decision on Monday. Neither Republican front runner will challenge current U.S. Senator, Jon Ossoff, in next November’s elections.
In her announcement, Greene took aim at the establishment Republicans in a way that would be appeasing to President Donald Trump. First, Greene took shots at Governor Kemp for meeting with donors at Sea Island, as he mulled over a run at the U.S. Senate. She says those people held meetings to find ‘someone who can dress up in MAGA just enough to trick the grassroots into thinking they’re one of us.’
“Many of the attendees hate Trump, backed DeSantis, look down on MAGA, and refused to fight when our election was stolen in 2020,” Greene said. “Now, they’re trying to carefully select someone who can dress up in MAGA just enough to trick the grassroots into thinking they’re one of us—someone who won’t dare challenge the Republican establishment or disrupt the status quo that has failed the people time and time again.”
That will go over well with her donors.
Secondly, Greene called out Ossoff for running YouTube ads claiming she would be his opponent.
“Jon Ossoff, you can stop with the fundraising emails and campaign ads claiming I’m your opponent,” Greene added. “I’m not running.”
All the while, Greene had words for the National Republican Senatorial Committee because the same polls that say Kemp should have run for Senate, now claim she’s underwater. She characterized polling data as ‘a scam.’
“Polling has become so dishonest that most people barely pay attention to it anymore,” Greene said. “Voters are sick of the consultants who keep getting rich whether we win or lose.”
Currently, Republicans only have a three-seat advantage in the U.S. Senate.
What’s the real reason why Greene isn’t running for the Senate?

A poll by Trafalgar, which excludes Governor Brian Kemp, has U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has 43% of the vote. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is polling at 22%, Mike Collins at 15%, Buddy Carter at 13%, Rich McCormick at 5%, and John King is polling at 2%. However, the same poll says Greene would be underwater against Ossoff. She trails Ossoff by eleven points.
Greene sarcastically referenced the article by Axios during her statement which suggests Trump does not believe the MAGA firebrand can win. Greene also claims Republicans aren’t up for supporting President Trump’s agenda. Why? Senate does not work due to its rules and 60-vote thresholds.
“You know who they are. You’ve watched them sabotage Trump’s agenda for years,” Greene said. “They don’t fear you, and they don’t serve you. They’re protected by the same corrupt system of donors and consultants who manipulate you with fear.”
Meanwhile, it was those same donors that feared Greene would suffer a similar fate to Herschel Walker did in 2022, when he lost to Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock. Why? Her viral moments and insults toward Democrats and RINO Republicans will fire up the base. But, those same methods may not jibe in a statewide general election.
Greene has not ruled out a run at the Governor’s Mansion
In her statement, Greene has not ruled out running for Georgia Governor in 2026. While Kemp is term-limited, Greene would challenge widely-backed Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones in a potential primary.
“Georgia is the economic engine of the South,” says Greene. “We’ve got the third-largest port in the nation, the busiest airport in the world, and major trade corridors in I-75 and I-85. The Democrats want Georgia because if they flip us, they topple the South.”
Greene’s shortcomings regarding a Senate bid would also come to play if she were to mount a Gubernatorial bid in 2026.
Who would challenge Ossoff in 2026?

Thursday, U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter announced his intentions to run for the U.S. Senate. His video characterizes him as a “MAGA warrior” and is aligned with Trump on all the key issues. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins could also make a run at Ossoff’s Senate seat. Collins sponsored the Laken Riley Act, cracking down on undocumented immigrants who commit serious crimes. Notably, it was the first bill Donald Trump signed in 2025. Also, U.S. Rep. Rich McCormick may challenge Ossoff as well. Lastly, Kelly Loeffler, who is heading up Trump’s Small Business Administration, is someone to watch regarding a challenge to Ossoff’s Senate seat.
Stay tuned. The 2026 Election Season is well underway.
