The Emerald United Foundation, a newly launched Atlanta-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth, strengthening families, and restoring hope in underserved communities, today announced its inaugural initiative: the Mother’s Day Freedom Initiative.

In partnership with Atlanta City Councilmembers Antonio Lewis and Byron Amos, the foundation will mobilize volunteers, community members, and partner organizations on Thursday, May 7 to bond out low-level, nonviolent mothers currently detained at Fulton County Jail—many held on bonds as low as $23 simply because they cannot afford to pay.

According to local data, nearly 77% of individuals currently detained in Fulton County Jail have not been convicted of a crime. Instead, they remain incarcerated pretrial due to financial barriers, often separated from their children and families for extended periods.

The Mother’s Day Freedom Initiative is designed not only to secure release, but to support

long-term stability. Participating mothers will have access to wraparound services through a coalition of community partners, including NAPIER, Inc., Social Xurrency, Healthcare & Emergency Solutions, Solomon’s Temple Foundation, and Mothers Against Gang Violence.

Emerald United Foundation was founded by Brewster following the personal loss of her mother and brother. Built on the belief that pain can be transformed into purpose, the organization is committed to changing the trajectory of underserved communities through strategic partnerships, direct services, and community-led programming.

Community members interested in supporting or participating in the initiative are encouraged to register at:

Space is limited, and confirmed participants will receive additional event details upon registration.
