CONYERS, GA–A 15-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the shooting of another 15-year-old male and a robbery that occurred on last Thursday, June 25. The suspect made his first appearance in Rockdale County Superior Court today, June 29, to hear charges he is facing, Conyers Police Captain Quantavis Garcia told On Common Ground News.
The juvenile suspect has been charged as an adult with four serious offenses: Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. He is currently being held without bond at a juvenile detention center, Garcia said. Even though the teen who was arrested is being charged as an adult, his identity has not been released. No additional information has been provided on the teen who was shot.
“With the assistance of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, we successfully apprehended the juvenile during the afternoon hours of Friday, June 26, at a residence located within the City of Conyers,” Capt. Garcia said.
The injured teen was taken to Grady Hospital after the shooting. No update has been provided on his condition.
Both teens are from Gwinnett County and are known to one another. The 15-year-old who was shot was spending the summer with his grandmother who lives in Rockdale County, Garcia said.
The shooting took place on Thursday, June 25, around 2:36 a.m. in the 1000 block of Elliott Circle, which is located in the vicinity of Irwin Bridge Road. The emergency call came into Conyers Real-Time Crime Center from a resident reporting that a male teen had come to their front porch asking for help after being shot.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound and provided medical aid. He was subsequently transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
