ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA–The Political & Civic Action Committee of the Conyers-Covington Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. will host a town hall to introduce the candidates who are running for three offices in the City of Conyers’ upcoming municipal elections.
The Kappa Coffeehouse’s “Meet the Candidates Night” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the JP Carr Community Center, 981 Taylor Street, Conyers.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together to explore and discuss solutions to issues that can benefit all. Citizens will be able to ask the candidates questions to gain a better understanding of that candidate’s platforms.
“For this election cycle, we have the Mayor seat open and two council seats,” said Elder Brockman, event organizer and Chairman of the fraternity’s Political & Civic Action Committee.
“This time last year, the community was faced with a chemical spill that left citizens looking for answers about long-term health issues and lingering questions. Leadership is shifting and it is important for citizens to be engaged. We believe a community informed is better equipped to make the right choices.”
Brockman said that in addition to the 2024 BioLab chemical spill, other community concerns include infrastructure, community safety, responsible budget management, economic development, technology, youth programs, and tax dollar accountability. Property taxes, along with the recent development of manholes being stolen in the community, also are critical issues.
All candidates running for the City of Conyers’ offices have accepted the invitation to participate in the town hall, Brockman said. Voters who live within the city limits of Conyers will elect candidates for the following positions on Nov. 4:

City Council, District 1

City Council District 2, Post 1
Charlie Bryant, (Incumbent unopposed)

Brockman stated that the event is not a campaign rally or debate. No campaign literature can be distributed or displayed at the town hall including campaign signs, posters, banners, etc. No campaign T-shirts, buttons, hats, etc. may be worn. Candidates attacking one another verbally is not permitted.
